JERRY GORE

Co-founder of The AlpBase Academy, Jerry’s career started as an officer in The Royal Marines.

He is one of the UK’s most successful expedition leaders and a professional mountaineer over a 30 year career, achieving new extreme routes on 6 continents.

He crossed the Iceland Icecap in 1977, aged 16, summited Mont Blanc at 17, and climbed a 7000m. giant, Manaslu North, in the Himalayas at 22. Jerry has lived year-round in the Hautes Alpes since 2003.

ROB BENTON

The Academy’s other co-founder, has been an outdoor professional instructor since 1995.

Rob holds the MIA and IML awards and is a fully qualified FE teacher. Rob also holds specialist instructor qualifications in kayak/canoeing, rock climbing, expedition leadership, and caving. He has worked with a wide range of international schools from Saudi Arabia, Italy, France and Switzerland. He has led courses for 160+ different schools and 12 UK based Outdoor Centres and is an expert in student mentoring, leadership, and teamwork. He is rated “Best Outdoor Instructor” by Mark Manville (KS3 Activity Director – British School of Paris). Rob has worked year round in The Haute Alpes since 2009

Mathieu is another example of an instructor who trains the trainers; he is an IFMGA mountain guide.

Mathieu is also a full ENSA ski instructor – France’s ski school for advanced instructors, in Chamonix.

DARREN JOY

Darren Joy is one of the most qualified and respected White Water Guides in the UK.

Darren is a full time BCU Level 5 Coach. His leadership expertise, river awareness and intimate knowledge of the Hautes Alpes Rivers make him a very valuable member of our team.

Darren is also a national trainer for Canoe England, and he is a team coach and a sponsored paddler for Pyranha Kayaks.

SANDRA HATCH

As well as holding a range of adventure qualifications in mountain leading, rock climbing and kayaking/ canoeing, Sandra is also a fully qualified youth worker.

Sandra has managed a school’s based outdoor team for Nottinghamshire County Council, where she was also a First Aid course provider.

She is a fully qualified sports masseur and a biomechanic’s coach, and has led treks to remote regions of Namibia for Raleigh International.

CLEMENT MOUNIER

Clement grew up in the mountains, learning to climb and ski just after learning to walk, he climbed his first 4000m peak at 10, and climbed the Nose on El Cap in Yosemite as a teenager with his dad.

He is an IFMGA mountain guide and also a ski instructor, he really enjoys showing groups his local mountains.

David has travelled to 5 of the worlds continents to fulfil his passion for white water, gaining precious experience along the way.

He is the trainer's trainer instructing the French river guides at the CRFCK, the national White water kayak centre, here in the Durance valley. he is also a fully qualified EFS French ski instructor.

CALUM MUSKETT

Calum is a mountaineering instructor, trainee guide and professional climber based in Wales.

He has experienced working with a variety of different groups and individuals, from adventure activities with school groups and youth clubs, to guiding private clients and training up new instructors.

When Calum isn't out on the hill working, he can be found travelling the world on exploratory climbing expeditions, kayaking rivers near his home in Wales, and enjoying the many downhill mountain bike tracks that the UK has to offer.

Konrad doyle

Konrad has gained an enviable reputation over the last 8 years working within the UK Outdoor Industry as a MIC holder (Mountain Instructor Certificate).

He has led educational, mountaineering/climbing and exploratory expeditions all over the world. These include every country in SE Asia and the majority of countries in Central Africa.

Konrad is a fully qualified summer and winter climbing instructor whose key skills include winter mountaineering, WW paddling, gorge scrambling, and coasteering. Konrad has worked for many of the UK's best outdoor centres including Glenmore Lodge and Ogwen cottage.

Dylan ShillabeerDylan Shillabeer

DYLAN SHILLABEER

Dylan has been working as an watersport coach/instructor for the past 4 years.

He coaches and guides canoe and kayak groups in the UK and Southern France. He has completed the Great Glen Trail with the Meath Epileptic Trust, leading and coaching individuals who suffer with various levels of epilepsy. He is currently studying a Bsc Honours in adventure sports coaching.

Personal paddling has taken Dylan all around the UK, as well as paddling in the French Alps and the Valsesia region in Italy.

As well as being a trek leader, a climbing instructor and kayak coach, Ash is our slack lining specialist.

He helped to start up the slacklining governing body and wrote elements for the qualification. Watching him on the line as he spins, flips and back flips is impressive, but what’s more impressive is watching him teach others how to do it.

MIKE ROSSER

Mike holds the MIC and IML awards and is qualified teacher (B.Ed.) Mike first visited the Ecrins Massif as a young Alpinist in the mid 1970’s and has been coming back ever since climbing, skiing, and cycling and running outdoor education courses.

25 years of teaching and lecturing PE and Outdoor Education at schools and FE Colleges, was followed by 5 years as the Executive Secretary of Mountain Training England and 12 with Jagged Globe/Adventureworks Managing their worldwide school’s expeditions programme.

Now a UK Consultant Education Visits Advisor, and an Inspector of Activity Providers, Mike’s enthusiasm for the outdoors is still undiminished. He continues to enjoy working and playing in the mountains, and is a loyal and highly respected member of our team.

Bénédikte Bégué

Bénédikte is an amazing lady, who lives in a yurt year-round here in the Haute Alpes. She is very passionate about the environment and loves to teach others about her way of life.

Her and her team are based in a forest clearing with yurts, tepee’s and animals including donkeys and llamas. Activities include land art, practical environmental skills, walking with donkeys and animal care. At the end of the day the group get the chance to cook guafres (waffles) over a fire, in a beautiful setting, while reflecting on all they have learnt.
